Canine Massage Therapy

I am currently training to become a qualified Canine Massage Therapist in Merishia Massage Therapy.

Canine Merishia Massage is a hands-on soft tissue therapy that works with both the muscular system and fascia — the connective tissue that supports and surrounds the body. Using a combination of massage and myofascial techniques, the therapy aims to reduce tension, improve mobility and flexibility, support circulation, and enhance overall comfort and wellbeing. It may benefit dogs experiencing conditions such as arthritis, hip dysplasia, cruciate disease, luxating patella, muscle spasms, mobility restrictions, postural compensations, age-related stiffness, and recovery following injury or surgery.

Massage therapy may help to:

  • Relieve muscular pain and stiffness
  • Improve mobility and flexibility
  • Support recovery after injury or surgery
  • Reduce compensatory strain caused by underlying conditions
  • Promote relaxation and emotional wellbeing

Massage therapy can be beneficial for a wide range of dogs, including:

  • Older dogs experiencing stiffness or reduced mobility
  • Active, sporting, and working dogs
  • Dogs recovering from injury or surgery
  • Dogs with orthopaedic conditions, such as arthritis
  • Dogs showing signs of discomfort, tension, or behavioural changes associated with pain

Canine massage works particularly well alongside other canine professionals, including veterinary surgeons, physiotherapists, hydrotherapists, and rehabilitation therapists. As part of a collaborative approach, massage therapy can help support ongoing treatment plans, improve comfort between sessions, and aid overall recovery, mobility, and quality of life.

For your dog's safety and wellbeing, veterinary consent will be required prior to treatment. This ensures massage therapy is appropriate for your dog and allows treatment to be carried out safely alongside any existing conditions, investigations, or treatment plans.

As part of my training, I will be looking for case study dogs to support my qualification. This provides an opportunity for dogs to benefit from treatment while helping me gain valuable practical experience under professional guidance.

If you are interested in your dog being considered for a case study, or would simply like to learn more about canine massage therapy and how it may support your dog, please get in touch — I would be happy to help.
